Chiamaka Nnadozie Returns to Brighton After Tough Tournament

Brighton Women goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie is back with her club after a disappointing time at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

At the tournament, she let in six goals as the Super Falcons were knocked out in the quarter-finals. She also conceded two goals against South Africa in the failed 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup playoffs.

Nnadozie faced criticism for her performance as the ten-time champions could not defend their title and missed the chance to qualify for the World Cup.

The former Rivers Angels goalkeeper is now looking to put that behind her as the new season kicks off this weekend.

“Few minutes in the pre-season friendly. Looking forward to a big weekend,” she shared on X before their opening WSL match against Arsenal on Sunday.

Brighton Women will take on Arsenal in their first game of the season at Broadfield Stadium.

Last season, Nnadozie ended the 2025/26 Barclays Women’s Super League season with the highest save percentage. She wrapped up her first campaign in England as the top shot-stopper in the league.

According to official league stats from the WSL at the end of last season, the Super Falcons goalkeeper had a save percentage of 74.7 percent. This was the best among all goalkeepers with at least ten league appearances.

Nnadozie just edged out Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton, who was second with 74.6 percent. Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce came third with 73.6 percent.

During her debut WSL season, the 25-year-old faced 83 shots on target in 19 league matches. She saved 62 of those shots, proving herself as one of the league’s most dependable goalkeepers despite being in one of the toughest women's leagues.

Her strong performances helped Brighton stay competitive against some of the best teams. They even reached the Women’s FA Cup final, where they lost to Manchester City.

Nnadozie kept six clean sheets, which was the joint-fourth highest in the WSL. She prevented around 3.3 goals, showing her skill in making tough saves and keeping her team in the game.

Last season, she won the WSL Save of the Month award for an impressive fingertip save against Liverpool. That amazing save also put her on the shortlist for the league’s Save of the Season award.
