AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze is finding new energy under coach Ruben Amorim as the club gets ready for the 2026/27 season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian stood out in Milan’s pre-season win over Manchester United on Saturday. He scored one goal and provided two assists in their 4-2 victory. Chukwueze is excited about his new role under Amorim.

After trying out different positions over the summer, Chukwueze showed in Wroclaw that he can be a key player in Amorim’s squad. Against United, he proved he can fit well in the wing-back role.

Chukwueze has mainly played as an attacking winger in his career. But the new setup from Amorim seems to fit him well. He is focused on making the most of this chance to help the team and to finally settle in at Milan.

“Yes, he’s a good coach. He trusts me, so he gave me an opportunity. Now it’s up to me to seize it. He simply gave me faith, and I think I have to take advantage of it. I can’t waste this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, returning to Milan after my loan,” Chukwueze told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Although it’s a position I have to adapt to because I’ve never played in this position in my career. As a footballer, if a coach wants you to play in this position, you have to do it by believing in yourself and in the coach, because he knows what he wants.

“So I just have to keep working hard, believing in myself and that I can do it. For me, it’s an opportunity I have to seize. I know it’s a difficult task, but I believe in myself. I know I can do it, that I can do anything.”

When asked if he was happy with how Milan was playing, Chukwueze said he was satisfied but knew he still had to work on his new role.

“Yes, a lot. For me, I think it’s something I need to work on. It’s my first time playing in this position, so I’m continuing to work hard. I need to improve every practice. I think the coaching staff is helping me.

“The coach is helping me too. Every time I make a mistake, he tells me, ‘Oh, Chukwueze, this is what you have to do.’ So I think I’ll improve before the season starts.”

The 27-year-old could be set for his best time in Italy since joining Milan in the summer of 2023. Chukwueze recently came back to Milan after a loan at Fulham, who chose not to activate the €26m purchase option in their deal.

While at Fulham, he scored three goals and provided four assists in 23 Premier League matches. He formed a strong partnership with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
