The Federal High Court in Abuja has thrown out a N10 billion case filed by businesswoman Aisha Achimugu against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This case was about the search of her home and the seizure of her property.
On Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the trial judge, Musa Liman, decided that the commission had the right to search Ms Achimugu’s home after getting information about her alleged criminal activities.
Ms Achimugu challenged the search and the seizure of her cars, jewelry, and other items. She wanted the court to rule on whether the commission acted within its legal rights.
In the case marked FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, she aimed to protect her right to privacy. She also asked the court to stop the EFCC from harassing her or searching her home. She demanded N10 billion in damages.
In his ruling, Mr Liman dismissed her claims. He said Ms Achimugu and her lawyers did not provide enough evidence to support the compensation she wanted, according to the EFCC. The judge also said the case had no merit.
Mr Liman noted that the case was brought in bad faith. EFCC lawyer Emenike Mgbemele praised the judgment. He said it was good for justice. He added that the suit was just wasting the court’s time.
This dispute comes as the EFCC continues to look into Ms Achimugu’s financial activities. In April 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja told her to answer questions from the commission regarding the investigation.
Another judge, Inyang Ekwo, ordered her to appear before the EFCC on April 29 and then return to court the next day. Reports say the EFCC is looking into claims of money laundering, conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretenses, and corruption.
The commission is also questioning funds her company, Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Limited, received connected to the acquisition of oil blocks. In a different case in July, a court ordered the final seizure of assets worth about N8.9 billion linked to Ms Achimugu.
These assets included jewelry worth N4.6 billion, 11 luxury cars worth N4.23 billion, $50,000, and N30 million. The trial judge, Jude Onwugbuzie, gave this order in a judgment on the application for final forfeiture.
Ms Achimugu has faced several investigations for money laundering. The EFCC has detained and questioned her over these allegations.
