Cross River State Mourns Another Commissioner

The Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy in Cross River State, Eka Williams, has passed away.

Mr Williams died on Saturday evening while getting treatment for an undisclosed illness, according to Vanguard newspaper, which cited the deceased's brother.

"His name will not simply be forgotten because he died; he will be remembered because he lived a worthy life. That is what matters," the newspaper quoted Mr Williams' brother as saying.

This makes Mr Williams the second commissioner to die during Governor Bassey Otu's administration. The state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Abubakar Ewa, died in 2025.

The Commissioner for Information, Ekpenyong Cobham, did not answer calls for comments on the news of his colleague’s passing.

Tributes

Friends and colleagues of Mr Williams have turned to Facebook to share tributes.

A Facebook user, Michael Gabriel, called Mr Williams a dedicated public servant and a good man. He said his death is a painful loss for Ikom.

"Ikom has lost a dedicated public servant and a good man. Your life of service, humility and the impact you made will remain in the hearts of those you touched," he wrote.

He also prayed for strength for Mr Williams' family and colleagues, and for the peace of his soul.
