The Edo State Police have arrested a suspect named Adedeji Benjamin for kidnapping, rape, and armed robbery in Benin City.
Eno Ikoedem, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Thursday. The incident took place on October 17, 2026.
"The Command got a distress call from a woman. She claimed that two men abducted her from Ihama and took her to Tembogha. There, she was raped and robbed at gunpoint," the statement said.
Ikoedem mentioned that the Aduwawa Division launched an investigation after receiving the report. They were able to arrest one of the suspects.
"We recovered a toy gun used in the crime and a Lexus Jeep as evidence," she added.
The police said that Benjamin has admitted to the crime. They are still trying to catch his partner in crime, who is currently on the run.
Patrick Daaor, the Commissioner of Police, emphasized the command’s commitment to keeping the community safe. He advised residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
The police confirmed that the suspect will face prosecution according to the law.
