Former Flying Eagles player Daniel Daga is now free from sexual assault charges. A Norwegian court of appeal made this decision, and his club, Molde FK, shared the news on Thursday.
In March 2026, Daga received a six-month prison sentence after being found guilty of a sexual act without consent. This incident took place in April 2025, and he was officially charged on December 19, 2025.
After the conviction, Daga was suspended indefinitely from playing with Molde FK. But now, the Court of Appeal has reversed the earlier decision, allowing him to return to the game.
"Daniel Daga is unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been reviewed by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK acknowledges the verdict, but the judgment is not yet legally binding," the club said on its website on Thursday.
The club also mentioned, "We recognize that this has been a serious and tough case for everyone involved."
"Since the indictment, Molde FK has been assessing the situation based on our responsibilities as an employer. Now that the Court of Appeal has made its ruling and Daniel Daga has been found not guilty, we believe the employment situation is clear, and Daniel will be available for selection for Molde FK moving forward."
Daga's lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, always insisted on his innocence after the sentencing in March. She was the one who filed the successful appeal.
The midfielder, who played for Nigeria at the U-20 level with the Flying Eagles, joined Molde at the beginning of the 2025 season. So far, he has played 15 matches for the Norwegian club and scored three goals.
