Davido shares scary moment with fame

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has shared a scary experience he had with fame. This moment made him wonder if being a celebrity was worth all the attention.

He said this happened just two months after his hit songs started playing everywhere.

Davido talked about this in an interview called “Davido Joins The Vibe Q,” which VIBE Magazine shared on their YouTube channel on Thursday.

At that time, he had only a few songs out, but they were popular enough to get him a gig in Ghana.

“I have like one song, I have like two records, but these are like the biggest records ever,” he said.

When he arrived in Ghana, the welcome he got was more than he expected. He felt like someone who had just been a normal person the month before.

“Yo, it’s like Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber type. So I’m like, yo, we lit,” he said.

Davido said the excitement of fame was constant during that time, with new achievements coming every week.

“Every week is just something new. I’m excited. I’m like, yo, I’m blowing up every week. We’re going higher in the charts,” he said.

He also noticed how women started reacting to him, which he found hard to understand at first.

“I’m excited. I’m like, yo, these girls actually love me,” he said.

While in Ghana, a night out at a nightclub led to his first encounter with a groupie. At first, it was a fun experience, but it turned into a nightmare the next morning.

“It was my first groupie, take back to the… that was like my first rodeo in that. And then I remember it was just a great night,” he said.

Davido said his manager knocked on his hotel room door while he was still asleep. He urged him to stay calm and broke the news about what had happened.

“He was like, open the door. He was like, calm down,” Davido said.

The woman he spent the night with had taken a photo of him asleep and shared it when her friends doubted her claims.

“Apparently she was telling people like, ‘oh, I’m with Davido.’ They’re like, ‘no, you’re lying.’ And then she took the picture,” he said.

Davido noted that the reactions were quick and personal. His family started calling him as soon as the image went around.

“My daddy was calling me. My sisters were calling me,” he said.

The shock of being exposed pushed him to a breaking point that morning.

“If I saw balcony that day, I would have jumped. I was going crazy,” Davido said.

When asked if such an experience is part of fame, Davido said his youth and love for women made it a lesson he had to learn. He believed a higher power guided him through it.

“I was young and I liked women too much. God had to show me, trust me, God had to show me at the time,” he said.

He said this incident taught him a valuable lesson about the dangers of fame, especially for young stars who remain in the spotlight while trying to have fun.

“You’re young, you’re famous, you’re a target. Even if you want to have fun, take their phones,” he said.
