Doma United coach Deji Ayeni says the team’s main goal is to make a strong mark in the Nigeria Premier Football League after a great start to the 2026/27 season.
The Savannah Tigers have won all three of their opening matches without letting in any goals. This includes a 2-0 win against former champions Enyimba in Gombe on Saturday.
Their great start has put them top of the early NPFL table with nine points. But Ayeni says the club is focused on competing well instead of feeling pressure with talk of winning the title.
“It is too early to judge any team at the moment, but the most important thing is that our set objective is to make a very good impression in the league,” Ayeni said in an interview.
“And if we are to win the league title, so be it. But we want to compete well and be at the top and want to make an impression on Nigerian football and stakeholders.”
Ayeni, who once coached Enyimba, also talked about the win against his old club. He said knowing the Aba side helped him prepare for the match.
“Concerning the game against Enyimba, it was a game that everybody had been waiting for, and I am happy that we prepared well, and the players responded very well,” he said.
“Don’t forget that Enyimba is a team I coached before joining Doma United. So Enyimba is my former team, and I know the club very well.”
Doma will now aim to keep their unbeaten start when the league resumes. They have already become one of the early surprises of the new season.
