Don't underestimate anyone, AY shares 2019 message from Asake

Nigerian comedian AY, whose full name is Ayodeji Makun, has remembered a message from Afrobeats artist Asake from 2019. At that time, Asake was looking for support for his music before he became well-known.

AY shared this story in a video on his Instagram on Monday. This was after he attended Asake’s sold-out concert at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The concert was part of Asake’s “In God We Trust” tour.

Reflecting on Asake’s path, AY said he received a direct message from Asake in 2019, but he did not see it back then.

“I remember when this boy sent me a message in my DM on Instagram. I didn’t even get to see this message on time. This was years ago, sometime during 2019,” he said.

AY showed the message in the video. Asake introduced himself as “Ololade” and asked AY for help with his music.

“Good Evening sir. I’m OLOLADE. How are you doing sir? I’m here for help, KING AY. I just drop a record titled, African Something. You vibing to the song is a lot to my career,” the message read.

Asake also begged AY for support, saying, “KING AY, Help a son sir. May God bless you and your family. I love you KING AY.”

AY made it clear that he was not sharing the message to claim any credit for Asake’s success. He gave credit to Asake’s talent, hard work, and God.

“I’m not saying all of this to take any credit. That glory belongs to God and his talent and of course the hard work that is put into all of this,” he said.

The comedian mentioned that seeing Asake perform in front of thousands in Houston reminded him of how much the singer has achieved.

He noted that this experience teaches us how to treat people who come to us for help.

“The truth is that the person asking to be seen today may become the person the whole world will celebrate tomorrow. So be good to people, respect their dreams, never look down on anyone because you simply cannot tell what tomorrow brings,” AY said.

AY also shared that after the concert, Asake’s management took him backstage. The singer came to greet him.

He pointed out that Asake’s humility was clear even with his success, saying, “Ah Asake, you were simply phenomenal.”

Finally, AY congratulated Asake, saying, “Nigeria celebrates you, Africa celebrates you and the world is seeing all your doings and workings right now.”
