Super Eagles striker Rafiu Durosinmi is set to become Genk’s most expensive signing. The Belgian club has agreed to pay €10.5 million (around N16.6 billion) to Pisa for the Nigerian striker, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the deal includes performance bonuses. Pisa will also keep a 10 percent sell-on clause.

This transfer will beat Genk’s previous record of €7 million, which they paid to Celta Vigo for Theo Bongonda in 2019.

Durosinmi, who is 23 years old, joined Pisa from Czech side Viktoria Plzen in January. He arrived for a fee of about €9 million. But he struggled to make an impact in Italy, scoring only once in 12 competitive matches.

Pisa's Decision to Sell

Pisa’s relegation from Serie A has led them to sell Durosinmi. This will help the club recover most of their investment while keeping a stake in any future transfer.

Genk is hopeful that Durosinmi will regain the form that made him one of the top strikers in the Czech Republic. The Belgian club has had success with Nigerian forwards before.

Paul Onuachu became one of the league’s best strikers at Genk before moving to the Premier League. Tolu Arokodare also revived his career there, winning the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Durosinmi's Potential

Standing at 1.92 meters, Durosinmi matches the profile of the powerful center-forward that Genk usually develops. The club believes he can follow the same successful path as his fellow Nigerian players.

This move could also help Durosinmi’s chances with the Super Eagles. With Victor Osimhen, Onuachu, Arokodare, and Akor Adams all competing for spots in Eric Chelle’s attack, regular play and goals in Belgium might bring Durosinmi back into the national team picture.
