Belgian club KRC Genk has signed Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi. The 23-year-old is the club’s second signing of the summer after moving from Italian side Pisa SC.
The Limburg club announced the transfer on Thursday. They confirmed that the Super Eagles forward has signed a four-year contract. This deal will keep him at the Cegeka Arena until 2030.
Durosinmi is seen as one of Nigeria’s rising stars. Genk believes they have a striker who can make an impact right away as they aim for success both in the league and Europe.
Genk expects Durosinmi to boost their attack
When introducing their new player, Genk called Durosinmi a complete centre-forward. They feel his skills match the club’s style of play.

In total, Durosinmi has an impressive record of 54 goals and 17 assists in 150 professional matches. This record convinced Genk they were signing a proven scorer in his prime.
Fits the club’s style perfectly
Dimitri de Condé, Genk’s Head of Football, shared his excitement about signing Durosinmi. He described him as the kind of player the club had been looking for.
“Rafiu is a striker whose qualities fit perfectly with the way KRC Genk want to play,” De Condé said.
“He’s a real presence in the penalty area, but he’s also technically strong and links up well with his teammates.
“He’s a classic number nine who can hold the ball up and bring others into play. We wanted someone who could make an immediate impact and help us compete at the top again. Rafiu ticks all those boxes.”
Onuachu's influence on the move
One big reason Durosinmi chose Genk was the advice from fellow Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu. Onuachu had a successful time at Genk before moving abroad.
The club said Durosinmi spoke to his Nigerian teammate, who praised Genk’s culture, fans, and focus on player development.
Durosinmi admitted that these talks made him believe Genk was the right place for him.
“I want to be important for the team from day one, score goals and give everything in every game,” Durosinmi said.
“I spoke with Paul about the club. He told me so many great things about Genk, the supporters and the way the club works with its players. I’m proud to be a Genkie.”
A new beginning
Genk is known for developing talented players before they move on to bigger clubs in Europe. Durosinmi hopes to follow in the footsteps of other Nigerians who have succeeded at the Belgian club.
