Former champions El-Kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists will clash for a spot in the President Federation Cup final. They will meet in Wednesday’s semi-final at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
This match features two clubs with rich histories in Nigeria’s oldest football competition. Both teams are eager to return to the national spotlight.
El-Kanemi Warriors have won the competition twice, in 1991 and 1992. They also enjoyed recent success, winning the trophy again two years ago. Nasiru Salihu led them to victory over Abia Warriors in the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
On the other hand, Wikki Tourists are known as traditional contenders in the competition. They won their only Federation Cup title in 1998 after beating Plateau United in a penalty shootout in Kaduna.
Both teams took different paths to reach the semi-final. Wikki Tourists eliminated Jigawa Golden Stars Jnr, Bayelsa United, Kada Warriors, and Flight FC to make it to the last four.
El-Kanemi Warriors also had a strong run, overcoming Krusaders FC, Akwa United, Bendel Insurance, and Sokoto United. This performance has shown they are one of the competition’s most reliable teams.
The match is expected to attract a lot of attention in Katsina. Both teams are aiming for a spot in the final and a chance to boost their domestic cup reputation.
