Nigerian team Enugu Rangers moved on to the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League on Friday. They beat Benin's AS Sobemap 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
The shootout came after both teams drew 1-1 again. This match took place in Lome, the capital of Togo, since Benin does not have a stadium that meets international standards.
After the two teams ended with a 2-2 tie on aggregate, Enugu Rangers missed their first penalty kick in the shootout. But they made the next five. AS Sobemap, playing in their first African competition, missed their third and sixth penalties.
Chidozie Iwundu scored for Enugu midway through the first half of the second leg. Emmanuel Ali equalised for AS Sobemap halfway through the second half.
Enugu Rangers are aiming to become the first African champions from Nigeria since Enyimba in 2004. They will face either Mouloudia Alger from Algeria or Nigelec from Niger in the final qualifying round in October.
