Enugu State Launches Long-Term Plan for Development and Progress

The Enugu State Government is working on a 25-year plan to ensure growth, infrastructure, and development continue after the current administration.

Governor Peter Mbah, who was represented by Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, shared this news on Wednesday in Enugu. This announcement was made during the 2026 Global Goals Week Symposium.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the symposium was organized by the State Office of Sustainable Development Goals. The theme for the event was "From Projects to Lasting Impacts."

Mr Mbah explained that the plan aims to shift the state's development focus from individual projects and administrations to a more structured approach involving institutions, policies, systems, and long-term planning.

He mentioned that this plan would serve as a guide for future administrations to maintain and enhance development in various sectors like the economy, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, the environment, technology, and human capital development.

He pointed out that development should not restart with every new government. Instead, policies, institutions, and systems must be strengthened to keep the progress made.

The governor added that the plan would rely on credible data, measurable indicators, and effective monitoring to assess the impact of government investments.

"The 25-year plan is intended to provide clear direction for future administrations within a broader vision for the state. This is how we create continuity," he said.

Mr Mbah emphasized that sustaining infrastructure like smart schools and healthcare facilities is not just about building them. It also requires proper staffing, maintenance, funding, and management systems.

He noted that roads should be seen as economic corridors that link communities, improve access to markets, and create opportunities for people, not just as physical structures.

Mr Mbah also mentioned that the state is enhancing digital governance to boost transparency, traceability, and accountability. He stressed that reliable data would be essential for tracking progress under the 25-year plan.

He encouraged citizens to take ownership of public infrastructure and urged them to protect government projects, as these assets belong to everyone.
