Ugboaja wants fair NBBF election process

Former D’Tigers star Ejike Ugboaja has asked for a fair and clear process for the Nigeria Basketball Federation presidential election. He believes all candidates should have equal chances.

Ugboaja, who has announced his plan to run for the NBBF presidency, raised questions about how the election is being managed and the communication with key stakeholders.

“How can you organize a congress without properly communicating with some of the biggest stakeholders? We have served this country. Even if I were not contesting for president, stakeholders deserve to be properly informed and involved in decisions affecting Nigerian basketball,” Ugboaja said, according to Gong News.

The former Nigerian international also pointed out issues with some state basketball associations. He claimed there are attempts to change existing structures before the election.

“There have also been concerns about developments at the state level, including claims that some chairmen are being replaced ahead of the election. We are hearing about attempts to change chairmen and manipulate structures. That is wrong,” Ugboaja stated.

He stressed that his worry is not about fighting against any individual but making sure the election is fair for everyone.

“My position is simple: we need a fair election,” he declared.

Ugboaja called for more involvement from stakeholders and said that the sport needs a system that gives players and administrators a stronger voice.

“All I am asking for is a fair election. Let everyone come out and compete,” he added.

He mentioned that Nigerian basketball requires longer local competitions and better grassroots programs. This will help create players who can reach the highest levels.
