The 2025/26 Premier League season has wrapped up, but English football is diving into a busy summer. Fans can expect a FIFA World Cup, transfer deals, fixture announcements, and European competitions all packed into these months.
Our reporter got the latest update from the EPL website on Wednesday.
The journey to the 2026/27 season will kick off in early June with the Premier League’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). Newly promoted teams Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City will officially join the league.
These teams take the place of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, and West Ham United, who were relegated this season.
Next, all eyes will turn to North America as the FIFA World Cup starts on 11 June. The tournament will take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
This expanded 48-team event will run until 19 July, featuring Premier League players from all clubs in the competition.
Mexico, the host nation, will kick off the tournament against South Africa in Mexico City.
While the World Cup is ongoing, Premier League clubs will remain busy behind the scenes.
The summer transfer window opens on 15 June, allowing clubs to register new signings as they prepare for the new season.
Just four days later, fans will see the full 2026/27 Premier League fixture list on 19 June.
All 380 matches will be released at 10:00 BST, helping clubs and fans plan for the upcoming season.
This release is especially important for Coventry City, returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2000/01 after winning the Championship under Frank Lampard.
As the World Cup approaches its end, Premier League players not participating will start returning to training in early July.
Pre-season training will ramp up later in the month, with clubs touring and playing friendly matches worldwide.
Manchester United will face Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July. Liverpool will tour the United States, while Chelsea is set to play Tottenham Hotspur in Australia.
The first trophy of the new season will be contested on 16 August. Premier League champions Arsenal will face FA Cup winners Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.
Due to events at Wembley Stadium, this match will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
European competitions will quickly follow.
Aston Villa is already confirmed for the UEFA Super Cup on 12 August, facing Paris Saint-Germain, the UEFA Champions League winners.
Brighton & Hove Albion will also start their UEFA Conference League journey in the playoff round later in August.
The 2026/27 Premier League season will kick off on 22 August, a week later than usual to accommodate the summer World Cup.
League officials say this schedule provides an 89-day gap from the end of the previous season. It also gives players 33 days from the World Cup final to recover.
The last major deadline arrives on 1 September when the transfer window closes at 23:00 BST.
By then, most clubs will have played two league matches, wrapping up a period filled with excitement on and off the pitch.
For Premier League clubs and fans, the message is clear: the season may be over, but football never really stops.
