Falconets head coach Moses Aduku is looking at the bright side of Nigeria’s journey at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. This is after their 1-0 loss to Colombia in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
Aduku believes the team made a strong impression at the tournament. They built on Nigeria’s previous second-place finishes in 2010 and 2014, even though they did not reach the semi-finals in Poland.
The former youth player also coaches Edo Queens, the Nigeria Women’s Football League champions, in Benin City. He said the Falconets showed their talent with a solid 3-0 win over England in the round of 16 on Thursday before Colombia ended their run.
Aduku pointed out that his team gave a brilliant performance against England. He believes this shows what to expect from them in the future.
“This will be a great platform for the young players to develop and move to the next level. We saw the future of our players, and I think the future is bright,” he said.
Aduku wants his players to use this tournament to help Nigeria rise in women’s football. He noted the draw against England shows what his team can achieve.
“Many analysts were saying that we played better than Colombia in this amazing game that attracted a full-capacity crowd at Stadion Miejski LKS Lodz.
This is a positive step for Nigeria and for my players as well. I believe we are capable of playing in the next World Cup,” he added.
