The burial of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo took place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State. One big topic from the event was a claim that his wife might be expecting a child.

This comment came during a brief stop at the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu. An individual at the ceremony made the statement. Some people thought he was the traditional ruler, but actress Victoria Inyama later said in an Instagram comment that he was a representative of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu.

The man prayed that Alex’s lineage would continue. He also mentioned reports that the actor’s wife was pregnant and expressed hope that the child would achieve even more than Alex did.

A video of this moment went viral on social media, sparking mixed reactions. Some people said they would be happy if the claim was true, seeing it as a final gift from Alex. Others asked why such personal news was shared publicly.

Some commenters felt that Alex would have preferred this information to stay private. They added that sharing the video was not necessary.

During the emotional burial, Alex’s widow, Anwuli Ekubo, appeared visibly sad. She wore a white outfit, a nose mask, and sunglasses while quietly observing the event.

Her calm yet sorrowful look drew sympathy from mourners. Many described the ceremony as deeply emotional and reflective of Alex’s private but impactful life.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, spoke at the event. He called Alex’s death a significant loss to Abia State, the Nigerian entertainment industry, and millions of fans worldwide.

Otti mentioned that Alex was more than just an entertainer. He referred to him as a cultural ambassador who showcased the image of Abia State and Nigeria on the global stage.

"The news of Alex’s passing came as a profound shock. Today, we mourn not merely an actor, brother, and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador, and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honour to Abia State and Nigeria," he said.

During the funeral service, Eno Eze, the lead pastor of Streams of Joy International in Umuahia, encouraged everyone to focus on building lasting legacies. She emphasized that life should be measured by its impact on others, not just its length.

She urged mourners to live lives full of purpose, marked by positive influence and service. Eno said people are remembered for their values and the lives they touch.

In another development, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced that proceeds from her movie ‘The First Lady,’ which she shot with Alex, will go to his family. Many praised her for this gesture, but some called it “insensitive,” saying she should have waited until after the ceremony to share this news.

Guests at the burial included Ayo Makun, Obi Cubana, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, Pretty Mike, Stan Nze, Nons Miraj, IK Ogbonna, Yomi Casual, and others.

Alex passed away on May 11, 2026. His burial followed several funeral events, including a service of songs in Lagos and a wake in Arochukwu before the final interment.
