Sprinter Favour Ashe has praised the National Sports Commission for setting up a top-notch training camp for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. He also mentioned that camp allowances have been fully paid, according to The PUNCH.
Ashe, who is known for his incredible speed on the track, appreciated the NSC for the quality of the facilities, accommodation, and food available for the athletes in camp.
“The camp has been excellent. Our allowances have been paid in full, the facilities are world-class, and the feeding is of a very high standard. The National Sports Commission has done a fantastic job in ensuring we have everything we need to prepare for the Commonwealth Games,” Ashe said.
He noted that these arrangements let the athletes focus on their training without worrying about any unresolved issues related to their welfare. This idea was also shared by former World and Olympic wrestling champion Daniel Igali, who praised the NSC leadership for similar reasons in a previous interview.
The NSC, led by chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and director general Bukola Olopade, has been focused on athlete welfare as the Games approach. Team Nigeria arrived in the United Kingdom early to adjust properly to the conditions.
Ashe’s remarks boost the growing confidence within Team Nigeria’s camp as they wrap up preparations for Glasgow. Nigerian athletes from athletics, weightlifting, boxing, and para sports are set to compete for medals.
