FGC Monguno not attacked, parents reassured about students' safety

The Federal Ministry of Education has rejected false claims spreading online that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked.

The ministry shared this information in a statement on Monday in Abuja. Folasade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations, issued the statement.

Mrs Boriowo quoted the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, saying the reports were false and misleading. He warned that such news could cause unnecessary panic among parents, guardians, and the public.

Mr Alausa stated there was no attack on the school. He assured everyone that all students, staff, and boarding facilities are safe and accounted for.

He added that academic activities are going on as usual in a peaceful and secure environment. The minister emphasized that the safety and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges are a top priority for President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Mr Alausa mentioned that FGGC, Monguno, has strong security measures in place to protect students, staff, and school facilities. He clarified that no student from FGGC, Monguno, was involved in the incident linked to the school online.

He explained that the affected individuals were remedial students outside the college. The Borno State government is already working to ensure their safety and well-being.

The minister urged the media, social media users, bloggers, and online platforms to check information against credible and official sources before sharing it.

He noted that spreading unverified information can mislead the public, create unnecessary fear, and distract from efforts to ensure safe learning environments for students.

Mr Alausa also asked parents and guardians to stay calm. He assured them that there is no security threat at FGGC, Monguno.

He reiterated the federal government’s promise to work with security agencies, state governments, and school authorities to maintain safety and security in all federal government colleges across the nation.
