FIFA Accuses UEFA of Spreading False Information About World Cup Plans

FIFA has accused UEFA, the body that runs football in Europe, of spreading false information. This is in connection to UEFA's request for documents about Gianni Infantino's plan to sell parts of the World Cup.

In a court case in Florida, FIFA said UEFA's push to get these documents is also an attempt to influence the FIFA presidential election set for next year.

FIFA president Infantino stirred up a lot of controversy in July. He proposed creating a commercial branch to manage major events like the World Cup and the Club World Cup.

This plan would have let private investors buy shares in a company formed under the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative. The strong reaction to this idea led FIFA to quickly drop the proposals.

In its court documents, FIFA claims that UEFA has made "numerous false or misleading statements" about Infantino and FIFA. One claim suggests that "Infantino sought to profit personally from the FFE proposal."

FIFA reached out to UEFA for their side of the story but has not yet received a response.

UEFA, which is home to World Cup champions Spain and strong teams like France, England, and Germany, is leading the fight against Infantino. They are openly calling for his removal.

FIFA confirmed this month that Infantino will run for president again in the election scheduled for next March. This is despite the backlash from his now-scrapped private investment plan.
