Manchester City has announced that Phil Foden has signed a new contract. This deal will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.
The 26-year-old midfielder’s previous contract was set to end next summer. Now, he has committed his future to the Premier League champions with this new long-term agreement.
Foden came through Manchester City’s academy and has become one of the club’s main players. He made his senior debut and has been key to the team’s success.
The England international has had a great career at City. He has won several domestic titles and has played a big part in the club’s recent successes.
Sky Sports News reported on Wednesday that this new contract means Foden will stay with City as they look to build around their top players while planning for future seasons.
Foden was left out of England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by head coach Thomas Tuchel. This decision surprised many because of Foden’s reputation and past importance to the national team.
The omission was not due to a major injury. It was mostly because of his form, tactical choices, and squad balance. Tuchel said he had to choose players who fit his plans best, not just those with individual talent or fame.
Before the squad announcement, Foden had a tough time. He had limited impact in some England games and was not consistent at Manchester City.
Tuchel had already hinted that Foden’s spot was not guaranteed. He mentioned that Foden struggled to show his training form in matches.
Talking about his new deal, Foden said he is living his childhood dreams by playing for City.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” he said.
“Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.
“I can only thank the club, staff, teammates, and fans who continue to put their faith in me and trust that I give everything I can for City. I hope I’ll be able to repay you for years to come.
“I can’t wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season, someone all the players respected and loved working with. To have him back here is exciting.
“Personally, I know I’ve improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad. As many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great club.
