Paris Saint-Germain may have kept the UEFA Champions League trophy, but fans at Eko Hotels & Suites in Victoria Island found another reason to celebrate. The final watch party was filled with football, fun, and shared moments. Supporters united despite their different club loyalties.
PSG defended their European title after beating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties. The match ended 1-1 after extra time in Budapest.
Many Arsenal fans felt let down by the result. But the vibe at Eko Hotels was electric. A drone light show lit up the Lagos skyline, displaying the Heineken logo and the UEFA Champions League emblem. Fans from both teams cheered and captured the moment with their phones.
The venue was packed with football lovers, creators, business leaders, and entertainers. They came together for the climax of a season-long Champions League experience. Arsenal seemed ready to make history when Kai Havertz scored first in the final. This goal sent thousands of Gunners fans into celebration. But Ousmane Dembele equalized with a penalty in the second half. The match then went into extra time and penalties.
In the penalty shootout, PSG stayed calm while Arsenal's Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed key kicks. This gave PSG their second straight Champions League title.
The final event wrapped up a series of watch parties across Port Harcourt, Aba, Owerri, Abuja, Benin City, and Lagos throughout the season. Even after the tough loss, Arsenal fans mingled with PSG supporters after the match. They exchanged handshakes, took photos, shared drinks, and talked about the match.
Maria Shadeko, the Portfolio Manager for Premium Beer at Nigerian Breweries Plc, said the event showed how football brings people together. "From the beginning, the idea behind ‘Fans Have More Friends’ was simple, football has the power to bring people together," she said. "What we witnessed at the final showed exactly that. There were celebrations, disappointment, excitement, and tension, but at the end of the day, fans came together and shared the experience."
Shadeko added, "We travelled across different cities and saw the same thing everywhere, people connecting through football. Whether they supported the same team or rival clubs, they found common ground in their love for the game."
Popular DJs and entertainers kept the energy high all night. DJ Big N and Dope Caesar played music before the kick-off and during breaks. Shody and Hypeman Best made sure the atmosphere stayed lively. Their performances turned the venue into a celebration of football and entertainment.
Throughout the campaign, music was a big part of the events. Previous gatherings included live shows from artists like Johnny Drille, celebrity appearances, interactive games, and chances to win premium merchandise. Fans enjoyed giant screens, top-notch match coverage, networking opportunities, and entertainment designed to create lasting memories.
Arsenal fans were the majority in the crowd. The North London club has one of the biggest fan bases in Nigeria. Thousands followed their journey to the final, hoping to see the club's first Champions League win.
The pain of defeat was clear when Gabriel's penalty went over the bar. But this did not spoil the atmosphere. Instead of arguing, fans stayed to celebrate, take pictures, enjoy the entertainment, and share the last moments of a campaign that united supporters from different backgrounds and cities.
"Football gives us unforgettable moments, but the people we share those moments with are what make them special," Ms Shadeko said. "That is the spirit we wanted to create throughout this campaign, and it was wonderful to see it come alive again at the final."
As the lights dimmed on another Champions League season, PSG left Budapest with the trophy. Arsenal was left to think about a missed chance. For fans in Lagos, the final was about more than just the score. It was an evening filled with football, entertainment, and togetherness, marking the end of a season full of Champions League experiences.
