Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kano State have arrested four people suspected of dealing drugs in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The suspects were caught during a secret operation by the Counter-Terrorism Unit, based in Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the command’s Public Relations Officer, shared this news in a statement on Monday.
The statement said the suspects were arrested based on reliable information about their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
The suspects are Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33. All of them live in Gaida, Kumbotso LGA.
The NSCDC recovered several items from the suspects. These include four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, commonly called “PG”; many Diazepam tablets, known locally as “Fara”; three tubes of Oshin Solution, also called “Sholisho”; and three big packs along with 20 parcels of suspected marijuana.
Mohammed Agalama, the State Commandant, warned the public, especially young people, against selling, distributing, and using illegal drugs.
Agalama said drug abuse poses a serious threat to public safety, security, and the wellbeing of society, especially for the youth.
He stated that the suspects and the recovered items would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, after the NSCDC completes its initial investigation.
He added that this handover would allow the NDLEA to carry out further investigations and take necessary legal actions.
The commandant emphasized the NSCDC's dedication to working with other security agencies and stakeholders to address drug-related crimes and any activities that could disrupt peace and security in the state.
He also encouraged the public to share credible information about suspected drug activities with security agencies, assuring them that such information would be kept confidential.
