The Bauchi State Police have arrested four people over alleged sexual offences involving minors and an attempted shop-breaking in various areas of the state.
These arrests happened during investigations by detectives from the Azare and Bununu Divisions. This is part of efforts to fight gender-based violence and other crimes.
SP Nafiu Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday.
Habib mentioned that three suspects were held for alleged sexual offences involving four minors. Another suspect was caught for trying to break into shops in Bununu.
One case involved an eight-year-old girl who was reportedly lured into a farm at Chokle Quarters, Azare, on Monday, September 14, 2026, by a 20-year-old named Gidado Adamu from Bidawa Ward. He allegedly tried to sexually assault her but ran away when she shouted for help.
“After we received the report, detectives acted quickly. They took the victim to General Hospital, Azare, for medical care and later arrested the suspect. He admitted to the crime and is now in custody,” Habib said.
Another suspect, Abba Umaru, also 20 years old and from Bidir Ward, was arrested for trying to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl at Samamuro Village in Katagum Local Government Area. This incident took place on September 6, 2026. The suspect allegedly lured the girl into a farm, but she raised an alarm and scared him away.
“Detectives responded quickly, took the victim to the hospital for examination, and arrested the suspect. He has confessed and is in detention,” he added.
In another case, a 22-year-old man, Auwalu Wada, known as Samba, was arrested for allegedly raping two seven-year-old girls at Buskuri Village in Madara District, Katagum LGA. Habib said Wada lured the girls into an unfinished building around 7 pm on September 14, where he reportedly assaulted them before fleeing.
“When we got the complaint, detectives took the victims to General Hospital, Azare, for medical attention and arrested the suspect. He has confessed to the act and is currently in custody,” Habib explained.
In a related case, Habib reported that police officers and members of the ‘Yan Committee’ in Bununu arrested a 21-year-old man, Umar Ladan. He was seen wearing a hijab while trying to break into shops in the area.
The PPRO said Ladan was stopped but couldn’t give a good reason for his actions, leading to his arrest.
All four cases have been sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised the officers for their quick response.
The CP assured residents that the police are committed to protecting lives, especially vulnerable children, and tackling crime in the state. “The command will not tolerate gender-based violence in any form,” Habib quoted the CP as saying.
Aliyu urged parents and guardians to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the police.
