Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury plans to invite US President Donald Trump to join him for his ring walk before he fights British rival Anthony Joshua.
Fury and Joshua will face off in Cardiff on December 11. Fury, known as the ‘Gypsy King’, is eager for Trump to be part of the entrance at the Principality Stadium, which can hold 80,000 fans.
Fury met Trump at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House in June. He wore a cap that said “Donald Trump for Prime Minister” after getting his travel ban to the United States lifted by the 80-year-old.
“I’ll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, old pal, and we’ll see if he’s available,” Fury said.
“Probably unlikely because of the situation he’s in at the moment, being the President of the United States.”
Preparation for Usyk
Fury says his fight with Joshua is just a warm-up for his real goal, a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, who has beaten him twice before.
“I don’t have any intention of retiring after Joshua. I’m using this bum as a warm-up for Usyk,” he said.
“This is a bum to me and I can guarantee that on the night when I knock him spark out he won’t know what time it is. And then I want the rabbit (Usyk) in New York City.”
Fury believes this year will be his most active since 2018. He has already trained with a 6ft 8in fighter, Arslanbek Makhmudov, for 12 rounds and has done seven rounds with another tall fighter, Mariusz Wach, who is 6ft 7in.
“Let’s not pull any punches here. I’m firing on all cylinders at the moment. I feel fantastic. I’m 38 years young.”
