Harry Kane thinks about NFL kicking alongside future MLS plans

Harry Kane has said he might mix a future in Major League Soccer with his dream of becoming an NFL kicker.

The England captain mentioned that he would think about this more seriously in the next few years, but he is still focused on playing football for as long as he can.

While speaking to reporters at England’s training camp on Wednesday, Kane said his interest in kicking for the NFL is still a real possibility.

"That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously," Kane said, according to The Athletic and NBC Sports. "It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way."

Kane, who has talked about wanting to try professional golf, said moving to Major League Soccer could let him play both football and American football.

"Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that, it might be a thing where you could connect the two, with the seasons," he said.

The 33-year-old also shared why he thinks his experience with football penalties could help him switch to NFL place-kicking.

"I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure and technique," Kane said. "If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than to any other sport. But as I know, with all elite sports, when you watch it on TV, people make it look easy, and you think it is possible, but that is not always the case."

Kane said he would take the challenge seriously if he decides to go for it.

"If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take six months to a year to try and practice before," he said.

Kane has often talked about his interest in the NFL and has shown admiration for the sport.

For now, though, he said his main focus is still on football.

"I want to play as long as I can here," Kane said, pointing to his current football career.
