Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will definitely happen in the United Kingdom. He dismissed reports that the fight might move to the United States, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Hearn, who worked with Frank Warren to finalize the fight details, said the signed contract clearly states that the fight must happen in the UK. This match is expected to take place later this year.
This news comes after reports said that American venues, like SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and places in Las Vegas, were ready to offer big money to host the event.
Hearn quickly shut down those rumors. He insisted that the legal terms of the fight do not allow for any change of location unless everyone agrees.
Backers from Saudi Arabia and other investors cannot just decide to change the venue. The promotional companies also have a say in such decisions according to the contract.
Both fighters are set to return to the ring in the summer before their big fight in winter. Fury’s camp is already getting ready for a fight in Dublin, which will be an important step before the main event.
The rivalry between Joshua and Fury has been growing for ten years, and they have not yet settled their differences in the ring.
Hearn confirmed that all key terms are now set. He said planning for operations and security will start to ramp up once the summer dates are confirmed.
