Nigeria's Igoh Ogbu has had successful surgery after tearing his Achilles tendon while playing for the Super Eagles during the June international break.
The 26-year-old defender got hurt while representing Nigeria. Medical checks later showed how serious the injury was. Ogbu had surgery at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice, and Czech champions Slavia Prague confirmed that everything went well.
In an official statement, the club said that the former Lillestrøm centre-back will be out for about three months as he starts his recovery program.
"During the international break, Igoh Ogbu tore his Achilles tendon. In recent days, he underwent surgery at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice, which went well.
"The Slavia defender will be out of training for approximately three months.
"Get well soon, you’ll come back stronger, Igy!"
This injury comes at a tough time for Ogbu. He has become more important under Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. Since the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he has started five straight matches for Nigeria. He also helped goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo keep two clean sheets in a row.
Ogbu has faced other injury problems recently. Last season, he could only play nine league matches because of fitness issues, while Slavia Prague won the league title.
If he heals as planned, Ogbu is expected to miss the first two months of the new season. He will return to play for both his club and the national team afterwards.
