Three Nigerian Women Wrestlers Receive Scholarships to Iowa State

Three Nigerian female wrestlers have received scholarship transfers to Iowa State University, a well-known NCAA Division One program in the United States. Akuh Purity, head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, praised Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, for this achievement.

Kolawole Esther, Christinah Ogunsanya, and Adekoye Jumoke, who were previously at William Penn University, an NAIA school, have now joined Iowa State. This move allows them to compete at one of the highest and most competitive levels of college athletics in the U.S.

Purity called the transfer a key moment in the athletes' academic and sports careers. He said it shows the great potential of Nigerian wrestlers when they get the right support and international exposure.

He explained that the transfer happened because the trio consistently took part in international competitions and performed well on the global stage.
