Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has made a surprising move to Turkish club Bursaspor. This decision ends the rumors about his future after he chose not to return to Celtic following a successful loan in Scotland.
Bursaspor announced the signing on Friday with a stylish video on their official Instagram. They also shared a statement on their social media, confirming the deal.
The club welcomed Iheanacho, noting the experience and skill he brings to the team.
“Our club has reached an agreement with Nigerian footballer Kelechi Iheanacho as part of its squad planning for the new season.
“Born on October 3, 1996, and playing as a striker, Iheanacho has played for Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla, and Celtic. He has scored 42 goals and provided 27 assists in 196 Premier League matches.
“We say ‘welcome’ to Kelechi Iheanacho and wish him a successful career with our club.”
The 29-year-old joins Bursaspor as a free agent after being a key player for Celtic in the 2025/26 season. He helped Celtic win both the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish Cup.
Even though Celtic wanted him to stay, Bursaspor's project was more appealing to him in the long run.
Iheanacho had a fantastic time at Celtic, showing the form that once made him a top forward in the Premier League.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker scored important goals during the season, including winning goals against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian, and Motherwell.
One standout moment was in the Scottish Cup semi-final, where he scored twice against St Mirren to help Celtic reach the final.
He finished the season strongly, scoring again in the Scottish Cup final as Celtic achieved a domestic double.
Though Celtic explored ways to extend his stay, reports from Turkey indicated Bursaspor's ambitious offer convinced him to take on a new challenge.
Iheanacho has signed a three-year deal, marking a new chapter in his career, which has seen him play in some of Europe's top leagues.
Since his breakout with Manchester City, Iheanacho has also played for Leicester City, Sevilla, Middlesbrough, and Celtic. He is known for his smart movement, precise finishing, and creativity.
Bursaspor believes these skills will greatly boost their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season. Fans have already welcomed him as one of the club's top summer signings after his impressive unveiling on social media.
For Iheanacho, this transfer means more than just a new location. It gives him another chance to revive his career and help one of Turkey's historic clubs achieve their goals in the coming seasons.
