The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Bosso, has urged newly promoted officers to stick to the police's strict rules against corruption, extortion, and abuse of human rights.
Mr Bosso spoke on Friday during a ceremony where he decorated 500 officers at the command’s headquarters in Owerri.
While talking to the officers, he pointed out that the current security situation needs smart, intelligence-driven policing, not just force.
He made it clear that getting promoted does not mean they can act arrogantly. Instead, it means they need to be more accountable.
Mr Bosso said, “Your promotion was in recognition of your dedication, discipline, commitment to duty, and consistent professionalism in your respective places of assignment.
“See your elevation as a call to greater responsibility.
“Uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and remain committed to effective service delivery and improved police-community relations across Imo.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that out of the 500 officers, 494 constables were promoted to corporal, one corporal became a sergeant, and five sergeants were elevated to inspectors.
NAN also highlighted that the ceremony had many senior officers, family members, and other guests in attendance.
