Inter Milan are thinking about whether to use an €8.5m buy-back clause to bring back Super Eagles midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro this summer. This comes after his loan at relegated Pisa ended.
Pisa has already taken steps to activate their own €7.5m option to sign the 21-year-old permanently. He had good performances in Serie A. But the Italian champions have the final say because of the buy-back clause in his contract from when he joined Pisa last summer.
Akinsanmiro joined Inter in 2023 but spent most of his time in Italy on loan. There is a lot of competition for places at the San Siro, which has made it hard for him to break into the first team. He played 35 times for Sampdoria in Serie B during the 2024/25 season, scoring once and providing an assist. He then moved to Pisa where he made 25 appearances and got one assist, but he could not help the team avoid relegation from Serie A.
Even with his time away from the first team, Inter still rates the former Remo Stars player highly. The club’s officials believe he has what it takes to become a top midfielder.
He shone while playing for Inter’s Primavera team, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 42 matches.
Reports from Italy say Inter are seriously considering activating the buy-back clause. This is especially true now that Pisa has been relegated. The club sees staying in Serie A as the best way for Akinsanmiro to continue his development.
If Inter decides to activate the option, the most likely outcomes would be either bringing Akinsanmiro into the senior squad or sending him on loan to another stable Serie A team. A return to Pisa in Serie B is seen as the least likely option.
