Farmers, truck drivers, and other road users are feeling the pain of the bad Iseyin-Abeokuta road. Residents from Iseyin in Oyo State are calling for immediate action to stop further economic losses.

The residents made their plea on Wednesday while checking a collapsed part of the federal road at Oja-Agbe, Iseyin.

Mr Segun Adeleke, President of Ebedi Frontliners in Iseyin, led the inspection. He said the road was last fixed during the first term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s time in office and has been ignored since then.

Adeleke explained that the bad road is making it hard for farmers in Iseyin to move their produce to the Ibarapa area of Oyo State and to Abeokuta in Ogun State.

While speaking to journalists at the inspection site, he said, “We have been too silent on the neglect of this road, which serves many agrarian communities from Iseyin towards Ibarapa area of Oyo State till Abeokuta in Ogun State.

“Many farms’ produce get spoilt along the road as trailers and trucks get stuck on the way or fall by the roadside because of the collapsed sections of the road.

“We are calling on the Minister for Works, David Umahi, to please pay a visit to this road and see the condition. Apart from the collapsed section at Oja-Agbe, another bridge at Ado-Awaye has also collapsed, as well as other points along the road to Abeokuta.”

The All Progressives Congress candidate for the Federal House of Representatives for Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, and Iwajowa, Saheed Alaran, also spoke. He promised that the Federal Government would pay attention to the collapsed section.

Alaran thanked President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in building the coastal road and fixing many roads across Nigeria.

Dasola Fadiran, the candidate from the Allied People’s Movement, and Mrs Yemisi Iranloye, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Psaltry International Company, also talked to journalists. They called for a “state of emergency on the Iseyin-Abeokuta road.”

They highlighted the bad road condition and the loss of manpower among farmers, truck drivers, and other road users as reasons for immediate action.
