Kanayo O. Kanayo Remembers Olu Jacobs and His Influence on Nollywood

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has honored the memory of the late actor, Olu Jacobs. He spoke about Jacobs' professionalism, dedication to acting, and his eagerness to mentor younger actors.

In an interview with BBC News Africa that was shared on Facebook on Friday, Kanayo called Jacobs a great actor. He noted that Jacobs' discipline and experience made a big impact on his colleagues in the Nigerian film industry.

“You wouldn’t tell an Olu Jacobs that call time is nine and he’s not there by 8.30,” he said. He remembered the late actor's punctuality and strong work ethic.

Kanayo talked about Jacobs’ influence on Nollywood and the bar he set for younger actors. He said Jacobs brought a lot of experience to the industry and always delivered fresh takes on his roles.

“For those of us who were opportuned to be on set with him, he was just that consummate actor who played his part well. And every new scene came with a new interpretation,” he shared.

He also mentioned that Jacobs was always ready to help younger actors improve their skills. “Always willing to teach the younger ones on how they can be better actors. And God save you if you’re on set with Mr. Olu Jacobs and you’re not proving yourself to be an actor,” he added.

Kanayo recalled working with Jacobs in a film produced by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen in Benin. In that film, Jacobs played his father, a king, while Kanayo portrayed a prince.

“I would have wished that he stayed more. He has played his part and it’s time the Lord called him home,” Kanayo said.
