Nigeria’s fastest man, Kayinsola Ajayi, has officially become a professional athlete after signing a contract with Adidas.

The 21-year-old shared the news on Thursday. He confirmed that he will give up his last year at Auburn University after three seasons there.

“New era. I am grateful to God to finally announce that I am officially starting the next chapter of my journey, continuing my professional track and field career with Adidas,” Ajayi posted on X.

Ajayi had signed a Name, Image and Likeness deal with Adidas in April 2025 while still competing for Auburn.

In May, he broke Olusoji Fasuba’s 20-year-old Nigerian 100m record of 9.85 seconds. Ajayi clocked 9.84 seconds at the 2026 NCAA Division I East First Round in the United States.

He went on to win the NCAA outdoor 100m title and has matched his national record twice since then. Ajayi also won two Diamond League races during the season.

Success at Commonwealth Games

Ajayi’s impressive year continued at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he won a bronze medal in the men’s 100m.

Now, the former Auburn star will start his professional career with Adidas. He aims for even more success on the international scene.
