Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has started plans for a new Police Mobile Force base in Zuru. This new base aims to strengthen security and fight banditry and other crimes in Kebbi South.
The governor gave the land for the project to the contractor during a short ceremony in Zuru. The Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, carried out the symbolic handover.
The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Abubakar Ambursa, received the land on behalf of the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police on Friday.
This project is part of Governor Idris’ larger security plan. It fulfills a promise he made during a recent visit to Zuru. The governor also asked security agencies to review their strategies to tackle new security issues in the state.
At the ceremony, the Emir of Zuru praised the governor for focusing on the safety of residents. He also thanked the governor for providing security agencies with important resources.
“Governor Nasir Idris has shown real commitment to protecting lives and property in Kebbi State,” the emir said.
He noted that even with the security challenges in different parts of the country, the Kebbi State Government has been giving vehicles, logistics, and financial support to security agencies in the state.
“This mobile base will help other security agencies in fighting armed banditry and related crimes across the seven local government areas of Kebbi South,” the Emir said.
He urged residents to support government efforts to bring back peace and security. He also asked them to pray for lasting solutions to the security problems in the area.
The new PMF base is expected to boost quick response efforts, improve intelligence gathering, and increase security presence in areas at risk of attacks by criminals.
In recent years, parts of Kebbi South, especially communities near other states, have faced security threats like armed banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping.
Officials believe that sending more specialized police units and working closely with local communities will help reduce crime and protect lives and livelihoods.
The event was attended by the Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Bala Isah, and other senior government officials, traditional leaders, and members of the All Progressives Congress.
