The Kebbi State Government has completed 25 important infrastructure projects. Seven more are almost finished, and 19 new contracts have been awarded across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed-BK, shared this news on Sunday during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi. He reviewed the infrastructure progress made by Governor Nasir Idris’s administration as they approach their third anniversary.
Ahmed-BK mentioned that these projects include road construction, rehabilitation, office buildings, transport terminals, drainage systems, bridges, and other vital public facilities.
He said the government’s investments aim to fix long-standing infrastructure problems, improve connections, and keep promises made to the people. “The projects are there for the people to verify,” the commissioner added.
He expressed concern about the bad state of the road network that the administration inherited. He noted that years of neglect had left many areas cut off and public infrastructure in a bad condition.
According to him, the government’s work on roads has made transportation easier, improved access to rural areas, and boosted economic activities.
New Contracts and Projects
Ahmed-BK highlighted some of the new contracts awarded, including the rehabilitation of the Birnin Lafiya, Gulma, Natsini Road. He also mentioned the construction of access roads and drainage behind Azbir Arena.
The 32.7-kilometre Birnin Lafiya, Gulma, Natsini Road, found in Argungu Local Government Area, has been given a completion time of 12 months.
The commissioner described good roads as key to the state’s economic growth. He pointed out that Kebbi relies heavily on agriculture and has increasing opportunities in solid minerals.
Better roads and drainage will help transport agricultural products, improve market access, promote trade, and attract private investments.
Ahmed-BK also talked about the new Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi. He said the old motor park was an eyesore and a source of shame for residents and visitors. The new facility aims to enhance transportation services and bring economic benefits.
He explained that the creation of the Kebbi State Transportation Authority, the purchase of mass transit buses, and the building of the modern motor park have all improved the state’s transport system.
These efforts have also created jobs and opened up new ways for the state to earn revenue.
Importance of Infrastructure
The commissioner emphasized that building infrastructure is crucial for better security and emergency response. It also helps expand access to key social services.
He urged residents to support the administration’s plan for continuity. Ahmed-BK argued that a second term for Governor Idris would help the government build on its successes and bring development to more communities.
“Gov. Nasir Idris has shown he can lead, tackle challenges, and deliver results,” he said.
He is hopeful that ongoing investment in infrastructure will speed up economic growth, raise productivity, and improve the living conditions of residents.
