Ogun State Council gives green light for new roads, hospitals, power projects, and MSME agency

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved new projects focused on infrastructure and economic growth. This includes building new roads, two general hospitals, a power investment, and setting up an agency to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The projects were approved over the weekend. They aim to improve infrastructure, boost healthcare, support businesses, and ensure a steady power supply for Ogun's growing economy.

Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, spoke to journalists about the Council meeting on Sunday. He said they approved the reconstruction of the 4.87-kilometre Siun Junction, Iperu Junction Road, which connects Obafemi Owode and Ikenne Local Government Areas.

The Council also approved the reconstruction of the 4.87-kilometre Simawa, Lukosi/Ogijo Road in Sagamu Local Government Area. Akinmade mentioned that they also approved changes for the reconstruction of the Sango, Ota, Ijoko, Agbado, Oke-Aro, Akute Road (Phase I) in Ifo Local Government Area and the 69.2-kilometre Abeokuta, Abule Egba Road.

These projects will improve connectivity, make it easier for people and goods to move around, and create more economic opportunities in the state.

In healthcare, the Council approved new General Hospitals to be built at Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area and Aiyepe in Odogbolu Local Government Area. Akinmade said these projects will help expand healthcare services and bring medical care closer to people, especially in areas where there is high demand for health services.

To support businesses, the Council also approved the creation of the Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency. This agency will focus on coordinating and boosting support for MSMEs throughout the state.

The agency is expected to encourage entrepreneurship, help people access business opportunities, and improve the skills of small and medium businesses so they can grow, create jobs, and contribute more to Ogun's economy.

Additionally, the Council approved Ogun State’s involvement in power generation through Gateway Power Limited. This is part of the administration’s plan to ensure a more reliable electricity supply for the growing industrial and commercial base in the state.

Akinmade noted that this power initiative is key for Ogun’s economic development. With more industries and businesses setting up in the state, having a steady power supply will boost productivity and create a better environment for investment.

These recent approvals cover essential areas in Ogun’s development plans, including transport, healthcare, business support, and energy. They show the government’s commitment to building the infrastructure and economic environment needed for ongoing growth in the state.
