The Karate Federation of Nigeria has started a Nigerian Karate League. They also set up new committees and commissions to help manage and develop karate in Nigeria.
These decisions were made during the Board’s first meeting led by President Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa. The meeting took place on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Rooftop Conference Hall in Check-Inn Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja.
In his opening speech, Dimkpa called the meeting a key step for the Federation. He emphasized the need for unity, professionalism, accountability, and strict following of the KFN Constitution.
As part of the changes, the Board appointed Florrie Omueti as the Chairman of the Marketing, Sponsorship, Partnership, and Finance Committee. Zainab Saleh will lead the Organising, Competition, and Welfare Committee. Bashari Maizari is now the Chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee. Oluwasogo Ogunleye will head the Youth, School Sports, and Women Committee. James Aina will manage the Technical Committee, while Olusegun Akinola was named the head of the Nigeria Karate Referee Commission.
The Board also approved other technical groups. These include the Nigeria Karate Coaches Association, the Nigeria Para-Karate Commission, the National Grading/Homologation Committee, the Nigeria University Karate Association, and the Nigerian Karate League Commission. Amakiri Oruamabo was brought into the KFN Board to chair the last commission.
In another decision, the Board lifted the suspension of Dave Jegede and allowed him to fully participate in Federation activities. He was also appointed as the Technical Director.
Ohis Asein, Chief Executive Officer of FAKS Media, got the role of Head of Media for the Federation.
The Board gave technical approval for the new Nigerian Karate League. This will create a structured competition in Nigeria to provide more chances for athletes and strengthen the sport.
The Board also approved Nigeria's participation in the UFAK African Championship in Algeria. This championship is set for September 6 to 13, 2026. They asked technical and administrative officials to start preparing Team Nigeria. They also confirmed the earlier notice sent to the World Karate Federation and the Union of African Karate Federations about the change in KFN leadership.
A one-year activity calendar was approved, covering August 2026 to August 2027. This calendar will guide the Federation's competitions, technical programs, and development plans. The Board also talked about preparations for the Japanese Ambassador’s Karate Championship.
On funding, the Board agreed in principle to pay facilitation fees for sponsorship deals made for the Federation. They decided that there will be no fixed percentage for all deals, with each deal being looked at individually.
The Board instructed that KFN’s official website and social media platforms be restored and secured. They also stated that all official communication for the Federation must go through the Secretary General or other officials permitted under the Constitution.
Dimkpa urged all members of the Nigerian karate community to set aside their differences and work together to build a stronger Federation.
