The Senator for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has urged Kogi State residents to make use of the ongoing Permanent Voter’s Card registration and voter information update by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The deadline for this registration is July 10, 2026.

In a public awareness message released in Abuja on Friday, the senator specifically called on youths and first-time voters to register early and get their PVCs. She said this process is very important for taking part in Nigeria’s democracy.

She pointed out that the voter’s card is crucial for citizens to choose their leaders and impact development in all government levels.

She said, “I urge all Kogi State indigenous sons and daughters, especially our youths and first-time voters, to participate actively in the ongoing PVC registration exercise. Your vote remains your voice, and your voice matters in shaping the future of our communities, our state, and our nation.”

Importance of Registration

Akpoti-Uduaghan also warned against voter exclusion. She encouraged eligible residents to register or update their details before the exercise ends.

“No responsible citizen should be left out of the electoral process. Those who have attained voting age should register immediately, while those whose voter information requires correction or updating should take advantage of the ongoing exercise before the deadline,” she said.

The senator called upon traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to work harder to raise awareness and boost voter participation in the state.

“I call on families, friends, community associations, and stakeholders across Kogi State to encourage one another to register. Democracy thrives when citizens participate actively. A PVC is not just a card; it is a symbol of your right to determine the future you desire,” she added.

Encouraging Civic Engagement

She emphasized that more participation in the PVC registration will strengthen democratic governance and ensure better representation for Kogi people in upcoming elections.

According to her, ongoing civic engagement is key to deepening democracy and promoting responsible leadership. She urged residents not to wait until the last days to register.

PUNCH Online reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission is currently carrying out the nationwide PVC registration and voter information update. Eligible Nigerians should register, transfer, or correct their details before the deadline on July 10, 2026.
