Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté has shared that personal losses affected his form during the 2025, 26 season. He looked back on a tough time both on and off the pitch.
Konaté played 51 matches, starting 49 of them for Liverpool. He was a regular player but found it hard to show the same high level he had before. This contributed to the club finishing fifth in the Premier League.
The defender has 27 caps for the France national team. He is still part of Didier Deschamps’ squad as France gets ready for the World Cup.
On Thursday, BBC Sport reported that while reflecting on his season, Konaté mentioned a number of personal losses that left him feeling emotionally drained. He was still trying to perform at his best.
“There was never a moment when I felt like I was on the mend. All of these tragic events happened so quickly and as soon as I felt like I was getting my head above water, something else happened,” he said.
Even with these challenges, Konaté said he relied on support from those around him. He also felt the need to push through for his team.
“I had the support of all these fans, who are exceptional at Liverpool, my team-mates and especially my family. But I also had to learn how to get back on my feet on my own because the team needed me more than ever and I know that my father would have wanted me to get back,” he emphasized.
Konaté’s words show the emotional pressure he faced last season. He remained an important part of Liverpool’s defense while continuing his international duties with France.
