Kwam 1 brings peace between MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego

One of Nigeria’s Fuji musicians, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as Kwam 1, has helped settle a long-standing fight between the National Union of Road Transport Workers’ National President, Musiliu Akinsanya, also called MC Oluomo, and the Lagos State Chairman of the union, Mustapha Adekunle, known as Tafa Sego.

The peace meeting happened at Ojusagbola in Ijebu, Ogun State, with many NURTW leaders present.

This news came out on Tuesday from Kwam 1’s Instagram page, where he posted pictures from the meeting.

According to the post, the two NURTW leaders have finally resolved their issues after years of conflict.

“After years of an age-long rift, MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego have finally settled their differences. And from what we know now, this is final,” the post said.

It continued, “This time, it was not just another handshake for the cameras. The two old friends and colleagues came together at Ojusagbola, with King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1) playing the peacemaker.”

The post highlighted that Kwam 1 stepped in as the Mayegun of Yorubaland, aiming to end the disagreement between the two NURTW leaders.

“K1 acted in his role as the Mayegun of Yorubaland by seeking an end to the long-standing rift, once and for all,” it said.

It also mentioned that both parties were happy with the outcome.

“Both parties are delighted about the new development,” the post said.

This reconciliation comes after several years of tension between MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego, who were once allies in the Lagos NURTW.

The disagreement between them has been linked to the leadership of the union in Lagos, with both of them being key figures in the transport group.

In January 2019, MC Oluomo sustained injuries during a violent incident at an APC campaign rally at the Sky Power Ground in Ikeja, Lagos. Reports at the time said a clash between supporters of MC Oluomo and Sego caused chaos at the rally, leading to MC Oluomo being stabbed and taken to the hospital. The police later declared Sego wanted regarding the incident.

Despite this, the two men were later found to be part of the same NURTW leadership structure. In September 2019, it was reported that Sego, who had been declared wanted by the police over the APC rally violence, was appointed to the caretaker committee of the NURTW led by MC Oluomo.

Tensions in the Lagos branch of the union increased in the following years, especially over leadership and control of the union’s activities.

In January 2024, MC Oluomo resigned as chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW amid a power struggle, which reports said could lead to a bigger conflict among transport unions.

A meeting led by then Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other officials resulted in changes in the union’s leadership, with MC Oluomo stepping down from his position.

The latest peace effort also comes after a recent public display of tension between the two sides at Kwam 1’s New Year All White Party in Lagos on January 2, 2026.

A video from the event showed members from Sego’s faction reacting after Kwam 1 publicly recognized MC Oluomo as the head of the NURTW. This caused a stir at the party, after which Kwam 1 urged the NURTW leaders to come together.

Thus, the recent meeting at Ojusagbola brought the two men back together, thanks to the same musician whose event had earlier sparked renewed tension.

With this latest meeting, Kwam 1’s social media page stated that the long-standing disagreement has been settled.

“After years of an age-long rift, MC Oluomo and Tafa Sego have finally settled their differences. And from what we know now, this is final,” the post said.
