The Labour Party will hold a meeting of its National Executive Committee on June 11. This meeting is to confirm the results of its recent primary elections and to send the candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The party shared this information in a statement on Thursday. The statement was made by Ken Asogwa, the National Publicity Secretary.
Asogwa explained that the NEC meeting follows Article 28 of the party’s 2026 Constitution. It will include committee members, candidates from the primaries, party officials, INEC representatives, media members, and other important people.
He mentioned that the meeting will officially confirm the results of the primaries held across Nigeria. It will also allow the party to submit the names of successful candidates to INEC, following the Electoral Act and the party’s rules.
Asogwa said, “The meeting is expected to ratify the results of the party’s primary elections conducted across the country and approve the submission of candidates that emerged from the exercise to INEC in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.”
He also stated that all successful candidates from the primaries will receive Certificates of Return for the positions of President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives. This will happen right after the NEC ratifies the primary election results.
Asogwa called the upcoming NEC meeting an important step in the party’s plans for the 2027 elections. He pointed out that this will be the first meeting since the recent national convention and the selection of candidates for the elections.
“The Labour Party further reiterates that this meeting, being the first NEC session following its recent successful National Convention and the nomination of candidates for the 2027 general elections, is of strategic importance to the party’s overall preparations and mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming elections,” the statement ended.
