Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Chapter, have started an indefinite strike at the university.

UNIZIK, a federal university located in Anambra State, is commonly known as NAU.

The ASUU-UNIZIK Chapter announced the strike in a statement issued on Monday. The statement was signed by the Chairman, Innocent Nnubia, and the Secretary, Osita Nnajiofor.

The lecturers said they decided to withdraw their services due to the ongoing non-payment of salaries, following the directive from the ASUU National Executive Council.

The union called on the UNIZIK authorities and the Visitor, President Bola Tinubu, to fix the issue. They want the full payment of the August 2026 salaries to be made to all members and to ensure this does not happen again.

"The ASUU-NEC standing Resolution allows branches of the union to withdraw their services when salaries are not paid after the third day of the next month," the lecturers said in their statement.

"Today is 7th September 2026 and the university has not paid the complete salary for the month of August to our members.

"This makes it more than three times that our members are having this ugly and frustrating experience," the lecturers added.

The ASUU-UNIZIK emphasized that the only reason for their strike is the non-payment of the complete salary for August 2026.

"The Congress resolution directs that all members should immediately stop all academic and administrative services. This withdrawal of services will continue until all members receive their complete salaries for August 2026," the lecturers insisted.

PREMIUM TIMES could not get a response from the university management regarding this situation.
