Nigerian actress Toyin “Lola Idije” Afolayan has shared her thoughts on what she thinks is causing Nigeria's problems. She spoke about this on Friday during the Osun Dagbonu cinema event with Sotayo Gaga. This comes as the country faces issues like insecurity and a struggling economy.

While talking on the second day of the four-day cinema tour with fans, Lola Idije said that Nigeria's problems stem from neglecting traditional spiritual practices.

She said, “We won’t suffer, and we won’t be implicated in matters we know nothing about. God will help us find solutions to these problems in Nigeria. It’s when we stop worshipping our idols that everything in Nigeria turns upside down.”

Lola, who is 66 years old, believes that the problems Nigeria faces will not be solved until people return to their roots. She feels that the challenges are signs showing that one must not ignore their heritage.

“We’ve been copying the white way of life. We don’t want to worship our idols again because we believe those who are modern and behave like white people are the new people we should be. We’re just deceiving ourselves and living a fake life. Let’s go back to our roots. Some people belong to one spiritual cult or another, and they must do what’s required of them; when they don’t do it, they won’t progress,” she added.

Lola Idije also praised Babatunde Akorede for his skills in directing the film. She said that the knowledge and wisdom he has to write this story are undeniable. According to her, only someone with the right understanding can write such a story. “You won’t write a story that’ll put you in trouble,” she stated.

Her comments come at a time when many celebrities are speaking out against the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oyo State. They are also highlighting the growing insecurity across the country under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
