Ademola Lookman, who plays for the Super Eagles, is happy after scoring in Atlético Madrid’s 2-0 win over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. He admitted that his season started off tough, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

Lookman came off the bench in the 71st minute and found the net just eight minutes later. He scored from close range after Manchester United’s goalkeeper Senne Lammens saved Jonathan David’s shot but pushed it right to him.

This goal marked Lookman’s first in the Champions League this season. It also ended a six-match goal drought for him. The Nigerian forward feels this goal is a big boost as he works to regain his form.

After the match, Lookman praised the team’s overall performance. He felt good about making a significant impact after coming off the bench. "A big performance from the team, all round defensively and offensively. A big, big performance from us," he told the club’s media.

The 28-year-old shared that Atlético’s coach, Diego Simeone, asked him to bring energy to the game and to help in both attack and defense. "Simeone told me to just bring the energy, try and help the team defensively and offensively," Lookman said.

Even though he was excited to score, Lookman recognized that he had not played his best at the season's start. He remains determined to improve through hard work. "Very happy, but I have not really had the best start to the season myself, personally. But keep on going, keep on fighting, keep on working. That is the mindset," he said.

Lookman gave credit to his teammates for their hard work before he came on. He noted that their efforts made it easier for him to fit into the game and help secure the win. "I’m very happy to come on and help the team; it’s important. The guys put in a big shift before I came on, which made it easier to slot in and play, so I’m really pleased with the collective effort," he added.

According to Lookman, this victory will boost Atlético’s confidence before their next match against Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday. "This win gives us huge confidence heading into our next fixture against Espanyol," he said.

Lookman hopes to build on this performance against Manchester United as Atlético aims to keep their momentum and improve their results in the upcoming weeks.
