Lookman excited to score first goal for Atletico Madrid

Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman is happy after scoring his first goal for Atletico Madrid this season. He netted the goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Lookman scored the second goal for Atletico in the 26th minute. He found the bottom corner from his usual left-wing spot. This win helped Diego Simeone’s team grab all three points.

The goal was important for Lookman. He had not scored in Atletico’s first two matches against Malaga and Villarreal. In those games, he played as a makeshift centre-forward because Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth were unavailable.

Simeone later apologized to Lookman for changing his position.

“I am very happy with the three points, of course. We played very well today, we were very sharp in the right moments,” Lookman told Atletico’s official website.

“Good to get off the mark, of course. I am happy to win, and that is the most important thing. Top players interlinking together, playing with the same mindset, of course I am happy to play with the guys.”

After the match, Lookman spoke to ESPN about Simeone’s apology. He praised the coach and his staff, showing his eagerness to keep learning from them.

“Playing under him is fantastic. I am gaining a lot of knowledge and working on my improvement. Learning from him and his team is crucial for my growth and for assisting the team,” he said.

Lookman joined Atletico Madrid from Atalanta during the winter transfer window. He had a tough first half of the season in Serie A. Since moving to Atletico, he has contributed goals and assists, proving that Simeone can trust him.

Now, Lookman aims for consistent performance as Atletico Madrid prepares for a strong challenge in the 2026/2027 season.
