The Gombe State Police have arrested a 35-year-old man named Musa Adamu. He is accused of attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, trying to strangle her, and stealing ₦100,000 in Gombe.

The police said the suspect lives in Riyal Quarters. They arrested him after the victim reported the incident at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, shared details in a statement on Wednesday. He said the attack happened early on June 9, 2026.

The victim told police that around 2:00 a.m., the suspect climbed her fence and broke into her room. “The suspect allegedly attacked her with an iron hammer and attempted to strangle her using a USB cable before robbing her of the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000.00). Upon raising an alarm, the suspect fled the scene,” Abdullahi reported.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the victim suffered serious injuries. They took her to a hospital after visiting the scene.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives promptly visited the scene, while the victim was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention, where she was treated and later discharged,” he added.

A quick investigation led to the suspect's arrest around 9:45 a.m. on the same day. The police also recovered an iron hammer that had blood on it and a USB cable that might have been used in the attack.

The police revealed that the suspect had asked the victim, who is a businesswoman, for money earlier that day, but she refused.

“Preliminary investigation further revealed that, prior to the incident, the suspect, being the victim’s boyfriend, had requested money from her on the same day, knowing that she is a businesswoman, but she declined,” the statement said.

The suspect is still in police custody as investigations continue.

“He will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” Abdullahi said.

Abdullahi assured the public that the Command is dedicated to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to report any suspicious people and criminal activities to the nearest police station.
