Manchester City has started discussions with Liverpool about signing forward Cody Gakpo. The Dutch player is becoming a hot topic as the transfer window comes to a close.
According to BBC Sport on Saturday, City reached out to Liverpool on Saturday evening. They are looking to make a deal for the 27-year-old. Tottenham Hotspur is also showing interest, but Gakpo reportedly prefers to join Manchester City if he leaves Anfield.
Liverpool does not want to let Gakpo go without first getting another forward. The team has been linked with Brighton's Yankuba Minteh and Ismaïla Sarr from Crystal Palace as they weigh their options in attack.
Gakpo's future looks more uncertain after Liverpool agreed to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola for a deal worth up to £123 million.
Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023. Since then, he has scored 33 goals in 91 appearances in the Premier League.
On Saturday, Gakpo played again for Liverpool. He assisted Alexander Isak's goal in a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield. He also scored in Liverpool's draw against Newcastle the week before.
With the transfer deadline coming up on Tuesday, Liverpool is in a hurry to decide Gakpo's future. They need to find a replacement if they allow him to leave.
